Explanation / Answer

Solution:- (a) mass of water = 18.01 g

volume of water = 18.0 ml

we know that, density = mass/volume

so, density of water = 18.01 g/18.0ml = 1.00 g/ml

(18.01 has four sig figs and 18.0 has only three sig figs. So, the answer has to have 3 sig figs)

to calculate the density of marbles we need the mass which is not given here. So, it could not be calculated.

(b) 18.01 g is the molar mass of water means it is the mass of 1 mol of water. Hence the number of moles with correct sig figs would be 1.000

so, answer is 1.000 mol.

(c) 1 mol of anything equals Avogardo number which is 6.022 x 1023 molecules.

So, far we have converted grams into mol and we got 1.000 mol.

so, 1.000 mol of water would be 6.022 x 1023 molecules.

(d) 18.01 g is the mass of 6.022 x 1023 water molecules.

So, 1 molecule x (18.01g/6.022 x 1023 molecules) = 2.991 x 10-23 g

(e) To solve this part we need mass of marbles which is not given so it could not be solved.

(f) 18.0 ml is the volume of 6.022 x 1023 molecules.

1 molecule x (18.0 ml/6.022 x 1023 molecules) = 2.99 x 10-23 ml

(g) Volume of 12 marbles is 19.6 ml.

So, 1 marble x (19.6 ml/12 marbles) = 1.6 ml

(h) 1.6 ml x (1 water molecule/2.99 x 10-23 ml) = 5.4 x 1022 water molecules
