Question

According to the showed electron configuration, answer for: a-How many shells...? b- How many orbitals...? c- What is the Atomic Number of this clement...? d- How many electrons...? e- How many electrons in the last shell...? 2- For element Ar. answer the following questions: a- How many shells according its electron configuration? b- How many electrons in the last shell? c- How many neutrons in the nucleus? 3- What do you consider the main contribution in the description of atomic structure in the atomic model of Rutherford (Planetary model)! Please, argue your answer. 4- According to you, what do you consider the main contribution of this Course in your professional formation?

Explanation / Answer

1. According to the shown electron configuration

a - Number of shells in 1s2 = 1

b - Number of orbitals in 2s2 2p6 = 2 (1s and 2 p orbitals)

c - Atomic number of 3s2 3p6 3d10 = 28

d - Number of electrons in 4s2 4p6 4d10 = 46

e - Number of electrons in last shell 5s2 5p6 = 8

2. For element Ar,

a - Number of shells acording to electron configuration = 3

b - Electrons in last shell = 8

c - Neutrons in the nucleus = 22

3 - According to Rutherford model of an atom, high amount of charge in placed in a very small volume known as nucelus as compared to the volume of the entire atom. The model comfirmed that atom is consisting of smaller subatomic particles ans is not a single particle or entity. The subatomic particles have diferent charges on tham and they behave differently from one another.

4 - Knowldege of atomic structure is most important to understand the chemical and physical aspects of an element.
