For the following cell Ba | Ba^2+(aq) || Zn^2+ (aq) | Zn AOL-CRR (Anode Oxidation Left-Cathode Reduction Right) What reaction takes place at the anode? What reaction takes place at the cathode? What is being oxidized? What is being reduced? Do the electrons flow from the Ba to the Zn or the Zn to the Ba?

anode reaction :

Ba (s) ---> Ba+2 (aq) + 2e-

cathode reaction :

Zn+2 (aq) + 2e- ---> Zn (s)

we know that

loss of electrons is oxidation

gain of electrons is reduction

so

Ba is being oxidized

Zn+2 is being reduced

we can see that

the electrons flow from Ba to the Zn
