Thank you!!! EXP #10: PRE-LAB EXERCISE 1. Missy Mae is given an unknown white ionic solid which contains of one cations, Na, K Ca2 and one of the anions CI, NO, so2- Write the formulas of all the possible ionic compounds which could be the unknown compound 2. Missy Mac performs a flame test on the unknown compound, which reveals a lilac color. An aqueous solution of the unknown compound yields the following results: forms no precipitate when 0.10 M sodium sulfate is added Forms a precipitate when 0.10 M silver nitrate is added Forms no precipitate when 0.10 M barium nitrate is added . n your reasoning. 3. There is no precipitation test for nitrate ion. Explain why this is the case.

Explanation / Answer

All the possible ionic compounds are NaCl , NaNO3, Na2SO4 , KCl , KNO3, K2SO4 , CaCl2 , Ca(NO3)2 , CaSO4

The lilac color proves that cation is Potassium. and the anion is chloride. It forms ppt with only AgNO3

All nitrates are soluble. So precipitate cannot be formed
