This has to do with Neuroscience! I need a detailed explaination!
QUESTION 1
Grateful for all your help with their frog research, your colleagues in Brazil give you some wild Amazon mice to take home with you. Now that they are working on the new frog species they no longer have time to continue experiments with these mice.
From lectures in your Neurobiology class you have gotten really excited about memory, so you do a Morris Water Maze experiment, testing the speed of mice from your home lab in New England and the Brazilian mice to use spatial cues to find a platform that has been submerged in water over 6 training sessions and you also test these trained mice after 24 hours. You obtained the following data:
Briefly describe how New England and Brazilian mice are different in their capability for spatial learning and memory.
35 2 30 e 25 E 25 a 20 15 > 10 New England Brazilian 0 Session 6 24 hoursExplanation / Answer
The Morris water maze is widely used to study spatial memory and learning. Animals are placed in a pool of water that is colored opaque with powdered non-fat milk or non-toxic tempera paint, where they must swim to a hidden escape platform. Because they are in opaque water, the animals cannot see the platform, and cannot rely on scent to find the escape route. Instead, they must rely on external/extra-maze cues. As the animals become more familiar with the task, they are able to find the platform more quickly. Developed by Richard G. Morris in 1984, this paradigm has become one of the "gold standards" of behavioral neuroscience.
As you can cleary find the difference in the diagrams that home lab mice have more spatial memory and learning ability than Brazilian wild mice.
For the Home lab mice from new England, we found that the average time to complete the maze in 6 trials is 21 seconds while for Brazilian wod mice, it is around 11 seconds.
After 24 hours, the brazilian mice remains at the same level but the home made mouse has increased its ability as this home lab mice has the ability to remember things after even one day but Brazilian wild mice lack this.
The second graph indicates all the six trials taken and how many seconds each time it took the mices to complete the Maze. As both the mice has a decrease in completing the maze as the number of trial is increasing but still new england home lab mice has more remembrance power and memory than Brazilian mice.
