The volume of a sample of pure HCl gas was 179 mL at 25°C and 103 mmHg. It was completely dissolved in about 50 mL of water and titrated with an NaOH solution; 11.3 mL of the NaOH solution was required to neutralize the HC1. Calculate the molarity of the NaOH solution. 8b8adb..pof 2ade688b 34d8b8adb. pat cBook ProExplanation / Answer
Solution-
Using the formula PV = nRT
(103 Torr) (0.179 Litres) = n (62.36 L-Torr/mol-K)(298K)
n = 9.21*10^-4 moles of HCl
Because of all of the HCl against the NaOH
by the equation:
1 HCl & 1 NaOH --> 1 NaCl & 1 H2O
9.21*10^-4 moles of HCl reacts with an equal number of moles of NaOH = 9.21*10^-4 moles of NaOH
Now let us find the molarity of the 11.3 ml:
9.21*10^-4 moles of NaOH / 0.0113 Litres of NaOH = 0.0815 Molar
