Question

Suppose a reaction has the equilibeium constant K-1.3 x 10 What does the magnitude of this constant bell you about the relative concentrations of products and reactants that will be present once equiliberium is reached? Compare the rate constants of the forward and reverse reaction - are they the same or is one larger? Which ore? 2 points 6. The following diagram represents an equilbrium miture produced a reaction of the type A + X t A. If the volume is 1 L, is K greater than oe smaller than 3? Justify numerically. 2 points Writing Equilibeium Expressions (3 points) 7. Write the equilibrium expression (3) for each of the following gas-phase reactions 8. Write the expression for K for the folowing reactions. In each case, indicate whether the reaction is a 2 points 9. The following diagram represents a reaction shown going to completion 8.88 8 Letting A -white spheres and B- black spheres,write a balanced equation for the reaction based on the reactants that are being consumed and the products that being made a. 3 points b. Write the equilibrium-constant expression for the reaction.

Explanation / Answer

Ans 5 :

Since the value of equillibrium constant Kc is more than 103 , it indicates thate the products predominate over reactants in the reaction. So the relative concentration of products will be more than that of reactants when the reaction attains the equillibrium state.

The equillibrium constant of the reverse reaction will not be same. It will be :

kc' = 1/ kc

kc' = 1/ (1.3 x 106)

= 7.69 x 10-5

The equillibrium constant of the forward reaction is larger here.
