Which metal has the highest heat capacity? Explain why one metal has a higher heat capacity than the other. 2. Having determined the heat capacity of both metals predict whether or not the heat capacity of stone would be greater than, less to or equal to iron. Explain your answer.Explanation / Answer
Solution:-
A) aluminum has higher heat capacity then iron because of the mass difference.
Aluminum is a light metal than iron as aluminum comes in the second period whereas iron comes in the third period also due to the filling of 3d orbital iron is denser than aluminum. so same area of aluminum will contain more atom whereas iron will have less atom so aluminum will require more heat energy to vibrate and increase the temperature.
B) heat capacity of stone will be greater than iron because iron has very close packing whereas stone has air gaps also stone is made up of the silicates which is lighter than iron so stone will take more energy to heat up.
