7. Write a sentence that describes how to determine the number of moles of a compound in a known mass of the compound if we know its molecular formula. 8. Compare 1 mole of H2, 1 mole of O2, and 1 mole of F2 a. Which has the largest number of molecules? Explain why b. Which has the greatest mass? Explain why 9. Which contains the greatest mass of oxygen: 0.75 mol of ethanol (C-H,OH).0.60 mol of formic acid (HCO-H, or 1.0 mal of water (H201? Explain why 10. Which contains the greatest number of moles of oxygen atoms: 1 mol of ethanol (C2HsOH), 1 mol of formic acid (HCO2H or 1 mol of water (H o? Explain why.Explanation / Answer
7) We know that , mole = mass of compound/molar mass
From the given data mass of compound is known and also molecular formula is known. Hence from molecular formula we can calculate molar mass of the compound.
Hence from mass of the compound and molar mass of compound we can get number of moles by using the above mentioned formula.
10) From the given data both ethanol and water molecules have only one mole of O atoms i.e 1N number of atoms.
Whereas Formic acid contain 2N number of O Atoms since it has 2 moles of O atoms.
Where N is Avagadro's constant.
Hence Formic acid contain more O atoms.
