Question
1) How many photons are produced in a laser pulse of 0.764 J at 593 nm?
2) Rank the different types of electromagnetic radiation by wavelength from longest to shortest. (an orange photon, a high pitch sound wave , microwave radiation, violet light, a low frquency infrared photon, a high frequency infrared photon)
3) The energy of light photons varies with wavelength. Calculate the energy per mole of photons for each of the following colors of visible light. (red light :739nm, green light: 549 nm, blue light: 401nm)
Explanation / Answer
1)
Given:
lambda = 593 nm = 5.93*10^-7 m
1st calculate energy of 1 photon
use:
E = h*c/lambda
=(6.626*10^-34 J.s)*(3.0*10^8 m/s)/(5.93*10^-7 m)
= 3.352*10^-19 J
number of photon = total energy/energy of 1 photon
n = 0.764/3.352*10^-19
= 2.279*10^18
Answer: 2.28*10^18 photons
