Question
Please read question carefully: It is asking for the minimum mass of sulfuric acid. The answer needs to be rounded to 2 sig-figs.
STOCHIOMETRY Limiting reactants Bethany Aqueous sun uric acid (H2SO4) will react with solid sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to produce aqueous sodium sulfate (Na2So4) and liquid water (H20). Suppose 29. g of sulfuric acid is mixed with 45.8 g of sodium hydroxide. Calculate the minimum mass of sulfuric acid that could be left over by the chemical reaction. I think the question is not correct. Here Sulfuric acid cannot be left over at any case, with the given quantity left over mass will be NaOH.
H2SO4+2NaOH= Na2SO4+ 2H2O
98 80 142 36
So, 80 gm NaOH reacts with 98 gm H2SO4
45.8 gm NaOH reacts with =( 98/80)*45.8=56.1gm H2SO4 will be needed.....Hence it can never be left over,, it is the limiting reagent.
Left over will be NaOH= 45.8-23.67=22.13 gm.
(80/98)*29=23.67gm
