Calculate the energy of the 285 nm photon that is associated with skin cancer and the energy of the 290 nm photons associated with essential vitamin D3 production. (Show your work.) 4.

In the discharge lamp the gases used are the Ne, Xe or Hg is used these have more energy levels as compared to the hydrogen therefore the transition of the electrons from the one energy level to other energy level is more in the discharge lamp therfore it produces more distinct spectral lines than the hydrogen lamp.

2)

If the valence electron of a substance absorbs visible radiation, the electrons gets excited. but in excited state it is unstable hence after some time it will come back to ground state, while coming back to the ground state it emits radiation which responsibel for the colour of the given substance.

Here, though K+ and Ca2+ have same number of electrons, the valence electrons of these ions absorbs different quantities of visible radiation due to difference in their energy grdient between their orbits and liberates different amounts of energy which are responsible for different colours.
