A person eats mushrooms because he hears that they contain enzymes that are goaume you-What is the end product of digesting mushroom proteins? Do you think tne would be active afer digestion? b. 10Explanation / Answer
B) Ninhydrin test observations: formation of intense blue colour confirms the presence of protein.
C) Biuret test: It is a test for detecting presence of peptide bonds.
Egg albumine- bluish violet colour appears.
Peptone- bluish violet colour appears.
Gelatin- bluish violet colour appears.
Hair- bluish violet colour appears.
1. The biochemical compound in hair is mainly the protein called keratin. It also contains lipids, traces of mineral elements and melanin.
a) During perming the strong disulfide bonds between the R groups of the individual amino acids in the keratin protein are broken. The result is straightened hair.
b) Disulfide bonds are formed during curling. If the diameter of the curling rod is small, lots of disulfide bonds will form.
2. The heat in hot water will denatured the protein by making conformational changes. The protein will turn into non functional form and eventually stop bacterial growth.
3. The end product of digestion of protein is amino acids. After digestion proetiens are absorbed in the digestive tract and later travels to liver for the formation of urea.
a) Insuline is a polypeptide protein which is broken down by the enzymes in the digestive system if it is taken orally and thus looses its functional capacity. When it is injected, it directly enters the blood stream and bypass the entire gastrointestinal tract and avoids digestion by enzymes.
