Section Date al202 PRELAB PROBLEMS EXPERIMENT UTA-708 ou may need to review stoichiometry and limiting reagent concepts in your textbook to complete is prelab and prepare for the quiz. What is the difference between a simple ion and a complex ion? Give an example (not listed in is experiment) of each What do we typically call the portion of a synthetic reaction in which we are focused on isolating the pure compound from the reaction mixture?

Explanation / Answer

A complex ion is a charged species with metal ion at the centre and bonded to ligands(electron donor molecules/atoms) through dative bonds or coordinate bonds.example -ammoniacal silver ion :

[Ag(NH3)2]+-It has silver metal ion Ag+ at the centre bonded coordinatively to two NH3 ligands, that donates electrons to the empty d-orbitalsof the metal ion

A simple ion is a charged species-atom or group of atoms(with covalently/coordinatively bonded atoms).

example -Cl- (atomic ion) and NH4+ (group of atoms with Nitrogen bonded to 3 hydrogen and donating one electron to H+ ion)
