Question
The percent yield is found using
percent yield=actual yieldtheoretical yield×100%percent yield=actual yieldtheoretical yield×100%
where the theoretical yield is found using the procedure from the previous problem, and the actual yield is the amount of aspirin that is weighted after its synthesis and purification. In this lab, we will aim to have a percent yield of at least 50%. Using the theoretical yield calculated in the previous problem, predict the actual yield (a mass) if you have a percent yield of 50%.
Theortical yield: 1.953g
Explanation / Answer
% yield is calculated by using equation,
% yield = ( Actual yield / Thereotical yield ) x 100
Here we have % yield is 50% and thereotical yield is 1.953 g.
Putting this values in above equation we get,
50% = ( Actual yield / 1.953 g ) x 100
Rearranging this equation for actual yield we get,
Actual yield = ( 50 x 1.953 ) / 1000
= 97.65 / 100
= 0.9765 g
Actual yield is 0.9765 g.
