Question

Identification Equations For Experiment Write the balanced net ionic equation for the reaction that occurs when each of the following combinations from Part I (the seventeen known solutions) is tried. In some cases, the reaction is difficult to detect and you may not have observed a reaction. Record the observations that you actually made in the data table so that you can compare your unknowns with your actual observations.However, write a balanced net ionic equation in each of the following cases, even if in the laboratory you failed to detect evidence of the reaction. a AgNO, +HC b AgNO, H,SO c. AgNO, +Na,SO d. AgNO, + NaBr e. AgNO, +NHC f AgNO,+ NaNO, & AgNO,+K h. AgNO,+KIO L AgNO,+Na,so, AgNO, + NaOH AgNO,+ Na,S,O

Explanation / Answer

a. solution:

AgNO3+HCl--->AgCl+HNO3 ( sivernitrate contains Ag+ ion and NO-3 ion; HCl contains H+ ion and Cl- ion)

Ag+ +NO-3 (aq)+H++Cl-(aq)----> AgCl (s)+H++NO-3(aq)

net equation, by cancelling H+ , NO3- in both side, we get ..Ag+(aq)+Cl-(aq)---->AgCl(s)

b. it depends on concentration of sulphuric acid. Dilute sulphuric acid will not really react at all with nitrates. You will simply get a solution containing nitrate, sulphate and hydrogen ions as well as the cations associated with whichever nitrate salt you used. that is Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+ H2SO4(aq)----> Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+SO42-(aq)

d. from that formula, Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+Na++Br----->AgBr(s)+Na++NO-3 (aq)

net quation is, Ag+(aq)+Br-(aq)---->AgBr(s)

e. Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+NH4++Cl----->AgCl(s)+NH4++NO-3 (aq)

f. Silver nitrate and sodium nitrate will not react each other. instead existing as ions of siver, nitrate and sodium.

g. Silver nitrate react with pottasium iodide to form silver iodide. Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+K++I----->AgI(s)+K++NO-3 (aq)

j. Silver nitrate react with Sodium hydroxide to form silver hydroxide. Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+Na++OH----->AgOH(s)+Na++NO-3 (aq)

k, Silver nitrate react with sodiumthiosulphate to form thiosilversulphate . Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+Na2S2O3--->AgS2O3(s)+Na++NO-3 (aq)

i.  Silver nitrate react with sodiumsulphate to form silversulphate . Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+Na2SO4--->AgSO4(s)+2Na++NO-3 (aq)

h. Silver nitrate react with KIO3 to form silver iodate . Ag+(aq)+NO-3(aq)+KIO3--->AgIO(s)+KNO3 (aq)
