Awards e: Proteins and Enzymes ey Carnes: Attempt 1 Question 13 (1 point) ) A complex enzyme is one that is composed of only amino acids. True False Save Question 14 (2 points) Catalase is an enzyme that catalyzes the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. It shows its maximum activity at a pH of 7 and a temperature of 37 °C Which of the following would result in an increase in catalase activity. Check all correct answers. Change the pH from 7 to 10. Change the temperature from 20 °C to 35 °C Raise the temperature from 20 °C to 100 °C, followed by lowering it to 37°C Increasing the concentration of proteins MacBook Air

Explanation / Answer

Simple enzymes are globular protiens and thus composed of amino acids. Complex enzymez generally have more than one protien or polypeptide chain with more than one catalytic domains and/or also has some cofactors or coenzymes bound to it.

Hence the answer is false. It has cofactors and coenzymes in addition to amino acids.

Enzyme activity is maximum when optimum conditions are met and activity decreases as deviations from optimum condition increases towards both direction (eg increase or decrease of pH from optimum conditions)

Hence changing the pH from 20°C to 35°C takes the enzyme towards it's optimum conditions and hence will result in increase in enzyme activity.

Rest of the options cause deviation from optimum conditions and thus will decrease the activity.

The last option of increasing concentration of protien will leave the activity unaffected.
