Question

PostLab Questions: To receive full credit, you must SHOW ALL YOUR WORK!! 1. What trend do you see in AS value as you increase the temperature? Explain your answer using your experimental data. 2. Does your value for AH° suggest that the solvation of borax is endothermic or exothermic? Explain why this result is consistent with the observation that more borax dissolved at higher temperatures 3. Does the solvation of Borax favor products or reactants? How do you know? AH 0 for the 4. The combustion of Peroxyacetone is a heatless explosive in that reaction The reaction is instead driven entropically. Explain this in terms of the chemical reaction "On my honor, as a Mississippi State University student, I have neither given nor received unauthorized assistance on this academic work." Explanation / Answer

1)delta G=delta H-Tdelta S

assuming G is constant

Tdelta S=delta H

delta S=delta H/T

with an increase in temperature the entropy of reaction decreases and correspondingly enthalpy of reaction also

2)An ionic compound is being dissolved .Borax precipitate out of the cooling solution.Less HCL is required to titrate Samples collected at lower temperature.the solubility of borax in water increases as temperature increases.More borax is dissolved at higher temperature indicating heat is reactant

3) During dissociation it forms sodium ions and borate ions leads the reaction in forward direction .Hence it favors product.
