Question
Need to find the amount of benzoin used in moles, the isolated yield in moles, theoretical yield in grams and moles and percent yield please!
Procedure (Dilantin by multistep synthesis)
In a 25 mL round-bottomed flask place 350 mg of unrecrystallized benzoin, 1.0 mL of glacial acetic acid, 160 mg of pulverized ammonium nitrate, and 0.2 mL of 2% cupric acetate solution. Using a reflux setup bring the mixture to a gentle boil for 60 minutes. Cool the solution to 50-60 °C and add 2 mL of cold water while stirring. Once crystallization of benzil is complete, collect the solid via vacuum filtration in a Hirsch funnel, and wash the crystals with water. Draw air through the crystals for 5-10 minutes. Weight the crude product.

Explanation / Answer
Molecular weight of benzoin = 212.24 g/mol
Amount of benzoin used = 350 mg = 0.35 grams
Moles of benzoin used = 0.35 / 212.24
= 0.001649 moles
Isolated yield = 0.36 g
Moles = 0.36 / 212.24
= 0.001696 moles
