Question

Environments over Geologic Time The space and time over which geologic processes occur is massive. The current Canadian Rockies were built between 100 and 60 million years ago. However, the mountains did not rise at a constant rate. Brief periods of intensified tectonic activity rapidly increased elevations. Many geologic processes follow a pattern such that processes are more active for a short period, followed by a timespan of relative quiescent. Numerous slips along a fault led to several meters of offset. Largo deposits of sediment result from floods during a wet period. It's the job of geologists to recognize periods where processes, landforms. or the boundary conditions (climate and tectonics) were similar. By doing this systematically in many locations, geologists have devised a timescale of important episodes in Earth's history. This permits other geologists to more readily place their observations into the context of larger geologic episodes. Given the information in this activity, place the features you identified in Part A in the chronological that they occurred. Rank from oldest to youngest elevation.

Explanation / Answer

Rank from oldest to youngest elevation

1 stromatolites formed

2 Cretaceous interior seaway formed

3 Shale of the Arctomys formation is formed

4 glacier sccured hill slope

stromatolites formed 3.7 billion years ago,

Cretaceous interior seaway formed 100 million years ago.,

The Triceratops dinosaur fossils are approximately 70 million years old, because they are found in shale and siltstone that contain volcanic ash radiometrically dated at 70 million years.

99% of glacial ice is contained within vast ice sheets in the polar regions, but glaciers may be found in mountain ranges
