Question
You measure the relative humidity at ground level at 25%. You find the temperature at ground level is 30 degrees C. Answer the following: a. What is the water vapor content of the air at ground level (you can round numbers)? What is the water vapor capacity (mixing ratio)? b. What is the dew point temperature? Is the air saturated or unsaturated. c. As the air moves up and over the skyscraper will adiabatic cooling or heating occur? Why? d. Using an adiabatic rate of 10 degrees C per 1000 meters, at what altitude would clouds begin to form?
Explanation / Answer
Answer- Given - relative humidty at ground level - 25%
temperature at ground level - 30 degree celcius
relative humidty- it is ratio of air water vapor content to its water vapor capicity to its water vapor capicity =
at 30 degree celcius air temperature saturated vapor pressure is = 31.8 mmhg
and saturated vapor density = 30.4 gm/m3
relative humidty = actual vapor density / saturation water density*100 =
so acutal water vapor density = relative humidty*100/ sturation water density = 25*100/30.4
so actual water vapor density = 82.23g/m3
so the amount of water vapor present in the air is = density* volume = 82.23*1=82.23
water vapor capacity = air water vapor content/ relative humidty = 82.23/25 = 3.28g
air temperature of 30 degree celcius and Relative humidty about 25%
Rh = 100-5(T-Td)
where Td is dew point temperature
Rh = 100-5(30-Td)
25 = 100- 150+5Td
75 = 5Td so Td = 15 degree celcius
the dew point temperature is = 15 degree celcius
