Question

Compare and contrast the following two scenarios in terms of the effect on the subsolar point at the equinoxes and solstices: What would happen if the earth were tilted at 35 degrees? What would happen if the earth were not tilted at all? Consider also the effect of each scenario on the circle of illumination throughout the year. Consider the following scenario: Eduardo is standing at 22 degrees south and it is noon sun time. Compare and contrast the apparent direction of his shadow on the equinoxes and solstices. At noon sun time, is there any day of the year on which Eduardo would appear to have no shadow at all? Approximately what time of year would this occur? 3. Compare and contrast two samples of air in terms of the sample's composition, temperature profile and function: Sample A, taken 2 km from the surface of the earth, and sample B, taken at 32 km.

Explanation / Answer

1) The subsolar point at solstices is on either tropic of cancer or on tropic of Capricorn while subsolar point found at equinox . If the earth is tilted 35° the earth would receive 'almost' equal solar radiation. If the earth is not tilted atall ; every place on earth receive equal sunlight i.e circle of illumination will always pass from both the poles always.
