Explanation / Answer

This is answer to question No. 28

The reaction is 2A + B --> products

Now we know the rate of a reaction is given by :- k [A]x[B]y

We dont know how the rate depend on the concentration sof reactants.

So Now lets analyse the data given ,

5 = k [0.2]x[0.1]y ....................1 (from column 1)

20 = k [0.2x[0.2]y...............................2 (from column 2)

15 =k [0.6]x[0.1]y ......................................3 (from column 3)

dividing 1 and 2 we get , 1/4 = (1/2)y

So y = 2

Now dividing 1 and 3 we get , 1/3 =(1/3)x

x =1

Now we get the values of x and y , we can now write the rate equation as  k [A][B]2

So order of reaction is equal to sum of the powers of the reactants = x+y =1+2 =3

SO order = 3
