How did people become identified, historically, as heterosexual or homosexual (note that these specific distinctions were unknown until the latter part of the nineteenth century)? How have people become pegged, as it were, to their ethnic group? (Note that St. Augustine in the fourth century CE may have been “black,” that is, Afro-Roman; it would not have occurred to the Romans to mention his “ethnicity.”)

Speculate as to why these distinctions are so important to Americans. What do they say about American culture?

Answer- Identity politics is tendency of people to form a form a political aliance that is different or mving away from traditional braodbased political alliance. these type of polical movement are based on the perspective and intrest of people and some social groups. this politics is shaped by the social orgranization like age, culture, nationality, gender equality, religion, caste etc. Ex- Black faminist identity politics, Homosexual identity politics.

Identity politics are originated in 1970s. In historically people are idenfied on the basis of facial hair and facial complextion as homosexual and hetrosexual. term heterosexual term was coined in mid of 19 centuary.by Karoly Maria kertbeny. at that same-sex erotic behaviour was illegal. only the sexual behaviour of male and female was legal. people are pegged on the basis of their facial completion smooth or dull , or presence of facial hair in the case of male, and also by their body orientation.

Kinsey scale is also called Homosexual- hetrosexual rating scale used to describe the sexual orientation of the person. these orientation are based on the personal experience of the person.scale is from 0-6. In which 0 is hetrosexual and 6 is homosexual.

In America, american-african people are more tolerent to homosexuality in the comparison of European nations. positive attutudes towards homosexual is 60%.Prior of European colonization homosexual peoples have very important and respectful place among Indigenous people. Spanish conquerors were horrified to homosexual people they punish the homosexual peoples. people were burn and torn and bite by dogs.
