Question
Complete this test and pass in the answer sheet (also posted) on or before the data of the Unit 1 Test. Please pass in only the answer sheet. On the answer sheet, be sure to enter your ZipID (the last five digits of your student ID) and fill in the appropriate babbles. Which one of the following reaction would you expect to have highest delta S degree? 1, 2 1, 3 3, 4 3 2, 4 Determine delta S degree for the reaction SO_3(g) + H_2O(l) rightarrow H_2SO_4(l) 169.2 J/K middot mol 1343.2 J/K middot mol -169.2 J/K middot mol -29.4 J/K middot mol 29.4 J/K middot mol H_2O has a normal boiling point of 100.0 degree C and its delta H_vap is 40.65 kJ/mol. 1) So can be lower or higher depending upon the number of mole difference between products and reactants.
option A has 3 moles on reactants and products side as well, therefore there will be no change in entropy
option B has 3.5 moles on reactants side and 3 moles on products side , there will be decrease in entropy
option C also has 4 moles on each side , hence no change in entropy.
option D has 5.5 moles on reactants side and 5 moles on products side, which means there will be increase
in entropy.
Option D is the answer.
2) for reaction 1 I2 converts from solid to gaseous state so, there will be more disorder which means the entropy
will increase. Second reaction is associated with decrease in entropy since moles of products are less than
reactants. For the third reaction 4 moles of products are created from 2 moles of reactant which means
that there will be increasein entropy. Fourth reaction shows a decrease in moles of products which indicates
that it is associated with decrease in entropy.
Option B is the right answer.
3) So = Soproducts - Soreactants = So(H2SO4) - [ So(SO3) + So(H2O) ] = 156.9 - [256.2+69.9]
So = -169.2 J/K mol
Option C is the answer
4) Svap = Hvap / Tvap = 40.65 kJ/mol / 373.15 K = 0.1089374 kJ/mol K = 108.937 J/mol K
Option C is the answer.
5) all spontaneous processes have S<0 .
According to the question S>0, H<0 is non- spontaneous at all temperatures
Option D is the answer.
