Question
Analysis of the impact of realistic size wind speed parameter on the Delft3D model REU Student - Marion Washington Currently, a constant default tropical cyclone size is being used for the wind field input in the Delft3D model. This could result in inconsistency in the model simulation and prediction results. To address this issue, analysis is needed to arrive at the realistic size for the wind size parameter. In this project, the literature review and data analytics based experimentation will be conducted to arrive at the realistic size for the wind field input parameter in the Delft3D model. In addition, the performance evaluation analysis for the Delft3D model output for the realistic size wind field input compared to the constant default size wind field input will be performed to study the impact of realistic tropical cyclone sizes on the Delft3D model simulation. Initially a matlab file is created and in order to plot the satellite image of hurricane in the atlantic ocean, some of the parameters that are available.to sketch the satellite image are used.
Now this model is compared with another given advisory model of hurricanes across atlantic ocean.
It can be found that the amount of hurricane circulation varies slightly with that of the advisory file.
The algorithm to indicate the wind size parameter for the two files are:-
Step1-The matlab file is created.
Step2-The area covered by the hurricane is measured by using the scales in the matlab simulation. This is compared with that of the advisory file measurements.
Step3-The variations are calculated. This is used to find.the wind size parameter, that is amount of blowing wind, its speed in m or km/hr,etc.
Similarly the water level difference is also found out using the same algorithm.
