Worksheet (10 pts) Work individually to answer the following questions. Lab instructors will give assistance if you don' understand what a question is asking. Hand in to your lab instructor before leaving. Name 1. (3 pts) State the number of significant figures in the following values. d. 1.000 X 10 e, 0.001010 x 10' f. 0.0100 a. 100,000 b. 8300 . C 1,000. 2. (3 pts) Perform the calculations, include units when necessary a. 100.0000 g d· 999.0 + 1,0000 e, 1.0x 100.00= 1.00 mL c. 0.0010+ 10.000 0.00100 x 1.0 3. (2 pts) Express each of the following numbers in scientific notation with the correct number of significant figures a. 50 b. 0001000= c. 1.000.0 10.00 4. (2 pts) Suppose you were using a laboratory balance and obtained the following set of data for the mass of an object that has a true mass of 5.000 g (+/- 0.002 g). Trial mass(grams) 5.091 5.090 5.089 4 5.090 Does the data exhibit high precision? Explain. a. b. Does the data exhibit high accuracy? Explain.Explanation / Answer
I am solving the Q1 with multiple sub-parts with this question as per Chegg guidelines, split the problem into multiple problems to get the remaining answer
Q1)
The below rules need to be follow for calculating the significant digits
1) Non-zero digits will be significant irrespective of their positon i.e. before the decimal and after the decimal
2) Any zeroes present between two significant digits i.e. two non-zero entries will be significant
3) Trail of zeroes are significant only if they occur after the decimal place
a) 100,000 - 1 significant figures which is 1 (remaining are trail of zero before the decimal place so not significant)
b) 8,300
There will be two significant figures i.e. 8 and 3
c) 1000.
It will be having four significant figures, since there is a decimal place so these will become significant
d) 1.000 * 10^(-3)
Four significant figures
e) 0.001010 * 10^3
Three significant digits
f) 0.0100
Three significant digits
