The precipitate collected in this experiment was dried to constant mass with several rounds of drying. Why could you NOT dry your sample in the oven for a week but could let it sit in the desiccator?Explanation / Answer
Precipitation
the precipitate collected in the experiment was dried to a constant mass with several rounds of drying. The sample was dried in a dessicator but not dried in an oven because the water of crystallization that might be associated with the precipitate formed would be evaporated if it is dried in oven which remains at high temperature. Another reason could be that the precipitate might gets decomposed to some extent if heated in an oven for drying instead of just placing it in a dessicator for a week.
