Explanation / Answer

Part B: Estimating Concentration from Density

The last column of the table containing Class Average Density (gm/l) cannot be determined unless we know the number of students in the class.

Part C: Make up solution

Given mass of sucrose (C12H22O11) = 7 g

Now Concentration in %w/v means amount of solute in grams dissolved in 100 ml of solution,

Therefore conentration is 7% w/v of sucrose in 100 ml of final solution.

Extra information

Molar mass of sucrose = 12x12 + 1x22 + 16x11 = 342

Moles of sucrose (n) = given mass/molar mass = 7/342 = 0.0204

Given volume of final solution = 100ml = 0.1L

Concentration = moles of sucrose/Volume of solution in litres

Concentration = 0.0204/0.1 = 0.204 M
