Environment is treated as an externality in the institutions which means it is unprotected. Environmental assests are largely unpriced, unvalued and unmarketed. It is taken as a separate issue by the environmental stakeholder as a cant do approach which is a biggest barrier for those who want development. Another major problem or barrier is lack of political will for the change which leads to another problem the lack of understanding and awareness in the importance of environment.
If people could understand the nature of the environmental problems all the barriers to the environmental development could be tackled. For this as an urban environmental manager we need to raise awareness among people and invest in environmental education. The decision maker should understand the issue of environment is as important or pressing as other problems like poverty, jobs alleviation. Also as a civically engaged citizen we need to protect the environment at the local level like using greener products, minimize the use of energy, using recycled products etc.
