based on percentages if we had 100 g compound then
C mass = 54.53g , H = 9.15g , O = 36.32g
dividing by respective atomic masses we get moles
C moles = ( 54.53g) / ( 12g/mol) = 4.544 mol
H moles = ( 9.15g) / ( 1g/mol) = 9.15 mol
O moles = ( 36.62g /16g/mol) = 2.27mol
now dividing whole by smallest number O we get
C/O = 4.544 / 2.27= 2, H/O = 9.15 / 2.27 = 4, O/O = 1
thus per 1O we have 4H and 2C
empericla formula is C2H4O
emperical formula mass = ( 2 x 12 ) + ( 4 x 1 ) + ( 1 x 16) amu= 44 amu
Molar mass = n x emperical formula mass ( where n = number of repeating units)
132 amu = n x 44amu
n = 3
Hence molecular formula = n x emperical formula = 3 x C2H4O = C6H12O3
