Question
Like many other faiths, Judaism faces a number of challenges. One of the weightiest of these challenges is the need to respond religiously to the mass slaughter of Jews during the Holocaust (orShoah), while also trying to preserve some measure of belief in a Deity who is both compassionate and just. As the author of the textbook writes, the extermination of a third of the world’s Jews has not only left a shadow on civilization but also “raised haunting questions about the faith and future Judaism.” First, consider again key themes learned in Unit 2: the covenantal promise of a blessed existence, the Jews as God’s “chosen people,” the present nature of reward for good and punishment for evil. In what ways might contemporary Jews respond to this horrific event? Does Judaism have the resources to move forward “after Auschwitz”? Second, expand this issue to all participants of Western religions. Why do bad things continually happen to good people? How can there be so much unmerited evil and suffering in the world if an all-powerful and loving creator governs the universe?
Explanation / Answer
reward and punishments is central to judaism throughout the ages : that man recives his reward for his good deeds and just retribution for his transgressions is very basis of the conception of both human divine justice, all the jews respond to this event by being truthfull in life and by making no sins , some how in present world no one can run life without lying so this is now not that effective yeah but for major sins now only we do punish those who are indulged with the wrong tasks and for good work people reward to the individual. its a good saying actully which you can see nature do same if we doo good deeds with nature we got the reward for that and if we play wrong with nature than we have to pay for it which is a horrible punishment.
after Auschwitz they made God dead , but the jewish people must live, although they are not chosen people and there is nothing scared about their existence.jews are not commanded by god , since there is no god who commands but jewsh morality must be preserved. human life is essentially absurdthey have to preserve there morality there theories which is the source to go ahead.
next two question have an similar answer. Bad things happens with good people because normally they do know how to cheat where as the bad one knows and they contineously take advantage from good and it seems like bad happens with good people but some how at the end good people never feel unhappy because they are with family they never feel alone in there life they live there life with satisfaction and happily where as bad one always find themself alone at the end and they never finds the satisfaction.because world is governs by loving creators and they give chances to bad people (evil) to change them self till the end of there existence and this is the reason why there is so many evil exist but there result is same they see the hell here and good people see the heaven here too.
unmarited evils are given chances to become good but if they dont they find there punishments in this lifes only.
