Question

Using the geologic map, answer the following questions. Note that in this example, the cross section shows the topography, i.e. the elevation above sea level is shown as a black wavy line, rather than an arbitrary flat line.

a) What is the geologic structure at #1?

b) What is the geologic structure at #2?

c) The geologic structure at #3 is a fault.

d) Give the formation symbol and name for rocks on the side of the fault that has been down-faulted.

e) Based on your cross section, which rock types tend to occur in areas of higher elevation? Why do you think this is the case?

Explanation / Answer

1- the #1 is greyish red and gray claystone ,argillaceous siltstone ,shale, and very fin to fine grained sandstone in beneath the soil.most of the geological formation is sedimentry.

2- the #2 contains sandstone, shale and limestone its to have sedimentry geological structure.it have an layer by layer geological formation.

#3 is out of map its a mistake i think its not possible to study a point out of map please specify the point on map.
