Explanation / Answer

The Flint disaster started with the cost cutting idea of terminating the water supply contract with detroit and to use the flint river as a source of water. Due of failure of establishing corrosion inhibition engines, the water consumed by the people faced health problems. Later it was found that the water contained high levels of lead and poisonous metals. It was recommended that the water is suitable for drinking and cooking due to presence of lead.

Poor decision making:

The state authorities decided to change the water source location to reduce the water costs from the service agreement with detroit. But due to improper construction and maintenance they failed to monitor the suitability of water usage. After the incident of crisis, when they were offered to redo the contract, they declined it due to the high change in water costs.

Actions that revealed the crisis:

People were facing health related problems when they start consuming water from the flint river. The supply of water was stopped when plants started complaining that they engines they use were corroding due to high levels of chlorine. People started complaining about the bad taste, smell and colour of water.
