Explanation / Answer
Q 1 What kind of incentives would an organ market provide for people to allow others to use their organs?
It probably would provide financial incentive. In other words, you receive money if you donate your organs. Also, it might provide a reciprocal agreement as well. In other words, you donate an organ and then you have rights to one that is donated for use by a loved one.
What would happen to the supply of organs if, instead of relying on donated kidneys, livers, and retinas, doctors and hospitals could bid for them?
The organ supply would likely go up. Since more people would be motivated to donate their organs as the hospital bids on them.
What drawbacks would a free market in organs have?
Rich people would likely be able to get the organs since they could afford to spend the most in a free market on them. This means prioritization of key organs would shift from those who truly need them and have a life threatening illness to those who have the most money and can afford to pay.
Have you made arrangements to leave your organs to your local organ bank?
Yes I have.
Would you do so if you could receive $50,000 for them? microeconomic class please use economic term and explain in your own words?
Yes, I still would. Since I have already done it for free, I would be even more motivated to do this and receive financial reward that I could use or pass on to my kids. However, at the same time, I hope my organs go to someone who truly needs them and not just someone who has a lot of money and can afford them.
