Question

cross sectional views.
place the layers and events in an order of time relative to each other using the relative dating principles
begin with the older later and work your way to the youngest layer.
then answer the questions

Events youngest crosion P 1. What type of unconformity is represented by erosion P? oldest 2. What do the hatch marks along intrusion B represent? Events youngest crosion J folding V oldest 3. What type of unconformity is represented by erosion J? 4. What type of forces caused folding V? 2 of 7

Explanation / Answer

Answer-1- The unconformity shown by the erosion layer P is Disconformity. layer deposited above the erosional layer and the layer deposited below the erosional layer are parallel. lower layers of sediment do not tilted.

Answer2- hatch mark along intrusion B represent igneous dike that is discordant igneous forms. it represent cross cutting relationship. these bodies cut accross the sediment layer. the age of the dike is younger than the sediment layer being cut by this dyke.

Answer3- the type of Unconformity represent by erosional layer J is Angular Unconformity. there is presence of angular discordance between sediment layer deposited above erosional layer and sediment layer deposit below the erosional layer. In this type of unconformitiy the sediment layer below erosional layer is tilted due to compressional deformatory forces.

Answer4- the compressional deformatory forces acting from two opposite direction cause folding V.
