Question
It’s easy to raise the topic of religious violence in a Unit on Islam. For more than a decade, stories about violence and killing in the Islamic world have been in the news almost daily. But this is just the moment of history in which we currently find ourselves. In other times, another religion would well have been at the center of attention. From the ancient world to the Reformation to 9/11, faith-based violence has featured prominently in human life. A peculiar feature of religion is its duplicitous nature; it seems to inspire contradictory behaviors. As Charles Kimball has written: “Religion is arguably the most powerful and pervasive force on earth. Throughout history religious ideas and commitments have inspired individuals and communities of faith to transcend narrow self-interest in pursuit of higher values and truths. The record of history shows that noble acts of love, self-sacrifice, and service to others are frequently rooted in deeply held religious worldviews. At the same time, history clearly shows that religion has often been linked directly to the worst examples of human behavior. It is somewhat trite, but nevertheless sadly true, to say that more wars have been waged, more people killed, and these days more evil perpetrated in the name of religion than by any other institutional force in human history.” Offer some reflections on religious violence in our modern world. Is it fair to see religious faith as a factor in violent behavior? What is it about the nature of religion that allows it to be used to encourage acts of division, hatred, and harm? Explanation / Answer
there are sevral example of religious violence but in most of the cases religion is not a key factor but to excite people for the violation people give force to this topic in todays world we can see how afganistan was suffring from terrorism, how Kashmir in India is suffring from the same problem. In the name of "jihad"terrorist train new kids of arround 14 years to use them in such acts, where as kuraan never told people to kill innocent people but some of the people do for there profit.
no its not fair to call it a voilent factor but yes people use it to do so mostly seen in muslim communities but this is not done by educated people untill and unless they got there brainwashed.
the main thing is we learn every thing from our religion and our culture based on our religion so when some one tells an individual that his/her religion is in danger where as its not but they make the individual think that ,the first thing comes n persons mind is to save it because harming some ones culture is like harming his family if religion is in danger today then next will be his community and next will be his family somthing like thios people brainwash some youngester and make them do this.
otherwise there is no religion which teaches to kill people.
