Question
Writing Persuasive messages:
Situation: Whole foods Market has grown into a nationwide chain by catering to consumer desires for healthier foods and environmentally sensitive farming methods. Along with selling these products, the company makes a commitment “to be active participants in our local communities.” Whole Foods not only donates 5 percent of after-tax profits to not-for-profit organizations but also financially supports employees who volunteer their time for community service projects. Many Whole Foods stores donate food and household supplies to food banks in their local communities.
You are the manager of the Whole Foods Market on Ponce de Laon Avenue in Atlanta. You developed a program for donation surplus food to local food banks. Because of the success of that program, top executives have asked you to help other Whole Foods stores coordinate this effort into a chainwide food donation program, “Whole Foods for Life.” Ideally, by streamlining the process chainwide, the company would be able to increase the number of people it helps and to get more of its employees involved.
You have a limited budget for the program, so the emphasis has to be on using resources already available to the stores and tapping into employees’ creativity to come up with locally relevant ideas.
Your Task: Write a persuasive e-mail message to all managers at Whole Foods Market, explaining the new program and requesting that they help by pooling idea they’ve gleaned from their local experience. Even if they don’t have food-donation programs currently in place, you want to hear idea from them and their employees for this charitable project. With their help, you’ll choose the best ideas to develop the new Whole Foods for Life program.
Explanation / Answer
Dear Food Store Owners
Greetings from 'Whole Foods for Life'!
At the outset I would like to congratulate you on being successful entreprenuers in the Whole Foods Market. Providing nutritious food item to the society serves as a foundation stone to a healthy society.
To introduce ourselves, we own a Whole Foods Market at Ponce de Laon Avenue in Atlanta. As you must be aware that Whole Food donates 5 percent of after-tax profits to not-for-profit organizations.
In our effort to serve society better and encouraged by the thought of being able to prevent any food from going waste, we have successfully developed and implemented a program to donate any surplus food to the food banks. We have aligned ourselves closely with these food banks to ensure zero wastage. At the same time we feel happy and content that we are in some way serving the society and being able to make a difference to the lives of thousands of hungry in the city.
The program is mainly driven by our pool of employees who volunteer for our community service work and in turn Whole Foods financially supports all such employees. The letter is an endeavor to spread our program to incorporate more and more Whole Foods stotes across the State and widen our base. We would feel obliged if you would show your inclination in being a part of this philathropic move that our store has taken and help us take it to the next level.
All it takes are a few volunteers and your brilliant ideas that can make it a success with the limited resources that we have at our disposal.
Hope to hearing from you soon on this.
Be a part of US and grab your chance to serve the society and make it a happier place
