There were 5 full-time homemakers, 5 full-time students over age 16 and 2 people who were disabled and cannot work. The remaining people did not have jobs but all said they would like one. One of these people had not looked for work for 3 months, however.” Calculate: # Question 3B Response Marks (i) The number of persons employed 1 (ii) The number of persons unemployed 2 (iii) The working-age population 2 (iv) The number of persons in the labour force 2 (v) The number of persons not in the labour force 2 (vi) The unemployment rate 2 (vii) The labour force participation rate 2 (vii) The employment to population ratio 2

Explanation / Answer

1) All the part time and full time employmnet comes undenr employed. Hence total number of employed is 5+25 = 30 people.

2) Unemployed include those who have capacity to work, willing to work and activly search for work.

Thus unemployed = 65 - (10+10+25+5+5+5+2+1) = 65-63 = 2

3) working age population = 25+5+5+5+2+1+2 = 45

4) Laabor force = emplopyed + unemployed = 30+2 = 32

5) Persons not in labor force = 65-labor force = 65-32=33

6) Unemployemnet rate = unemployed/labor force * 100 = 2/32 * 100 = 6.25%

7) Labor force particpation rate = employed/labor force * 100 = 30/32 * 100 = 93.75

8) Employment to population ratio = 30/65 = 6/13
