Question
Name Chapter 11 Investigation Worksheet, page 1 To complete this worksheet, see the instructions in the textbook (Chapter 11 Investigation) Table 1. Landscape Features and Geologic Setting Observations: Read the descriptions in your textbook (Chapter 11 Investigation) about this place and think about what the descriptions imply about shoreline processes, sources of fresh water and other natural resources, and other aspects that might be important. Features and Processes: On Table 2, identify the types of features you interpret to be present and what type of processes are likely associated with each feature Implications for a Port or Settlement: Consider the features and processes to decide the best sites for a port and for a settlement. On the map, write the letter (P) for the best site for a port and (S) for the best site for a settlement, There is not a single best choice, but be prepared to describe your reasoning and defend your choice Copyright © McGraw-Hill Education, permission required for reproduction or display.Explanation / Answer
First of all, this is an island that surrounded by open ocean. I identify this is land having number of geological features.
In Northern Coast we have feature like delta, in Southern coast feature like( embayment, barrier island or sandy island etc), in western coast features like (sea cliffsand, marine terrace) and in eastern coast we have features like submerged coast, embayment etc.
Source of freshwater from land only due rain fall,we can make the port and for there best possible place should be at S margin of this is island that is sandy island or barrier island.
So i starting the answering from table number( 3) Multiple choice question from top to bottom....( tolal number of question from top to bottom are 14 in this table)
ANSEWR NO.1- (a) sea cliffs - the shoreline feature is represented by very steep topography along the west coast ( left side of island).Because along the west coast there is very steep slope.
ANSWER NO.2- (b) marine terrace-- the shoreline feature represented by the flat bench above the west coast. because when sea cliff form the erosion starts from land and deposition in sea and we know thet west coast having very steep slop so sea cliffs migrates due to erosion and formed the marine terrace.
ANSEWR NO. 3- (C) DELTA- in northern coast when river meets the sea and sediment acuumulation there and formed the delta.its need long transporation from land to meets in to thesea.
ANSWER NO.4-(f) sansy beach-- formed in eastern part of northern shore.
ANSWER NO.5- (e) submerged coastline- reflects the embayment work along the eastern coast of the island.
ANSWER NO-6-(d) spits and sand bars -- formed in southern coast of island that is rigde like feature.
ANSWER NO- 7- (a) erosion of bed rock along the shoreline- procees is likely occuring at the cliffs along the western coast (left side of the island).
ANSWER NO-8-(c) upliftment of land realative to sea lavel- is trhe shore line process likely occured to form on the flat bench above the west coast.
ANSWER NO-9-(b) deposition of sediment from the land-- is the shoreline process is likely occuring where the river meets to the sea in the northern coast.
ANSWER NO-10-(a) transport of delta- derived sdiment along the coast-- is the shoreline process is likely occuring along the eastern part of the northen shore.
ANSWER NO-11-(c) subsidence of land relative to sea level-- is the shoreline process is likely occuring at the eambayment along the along the eastern coast.
ANSWER NO-12-(b) transport of sand and other sediment along the coast-- is the shoreline process is likely occuring to produce the ridge of sand and adjecent island along the southern coast.
ANSWER NO-13-(a) west to east-- direction of wave and sedement transport.
ANSWER NO-14-(c) on the sandy island on the south side-- is the place on the island is best place for port.
