Answer- the Laowry landfill of Aurora, CO. It is now on EPA's superfund list. the recycling rate of Colorado is below national recycling rate. The EPA superfund is program by federal goverment to make some effort to clean up lands that is being totally contaminated by harmful hazardous chemicals and waste material. those sites that listed in Superfund list are those location that has been contaminated by harmful waste material and chemical and it need to clean up.
the level of waste in landfill are very high because the harmful and hazardous waste material and harmful toxic chemical are dumping in these landfill. these landfill create air pollution be emisssion of methane gas, that is harmful green house that is extremely harmful for our environment. and when the rainwater get into these landfill site then some water percolates through subsurface and contaminated the groundwater.thus caused groundwater pollution.
the corrective action that should be proposed are following
- do not throw garbage, litter and waste material in open space.
- public awareness is must , people must know how to treated with garbage and waste material.
- separate dustbins or landfills for liquid and dry waste
- ours goal should be zero waste in the city
- special treatment like apply clay for landfill where harmful chemical or heavy metal is dumped
we can reduce the waste by following techniques
- recycle of the product and electrical appliances
- avoid snacks packs and warapped packs and plastic bags items
- reduce the usage of paper and go through electronic mail and e-document
- use reusable, reduseable carry bags while goinf gor shoping, strickly avoid plastic bags
- purchase item in limited amount that no waste is generated.
