When the design is approved, part prints and specifications are mailed to at least 3 approved outside vendors. The outside shop supplying the best price and delivery date is usually awarded a contract to produce the part. Clear Glass Windows also has an internal shop department that can produce parts on demand. In the past, this department has been used primarily to determine the quality of parts coming from the supplier and to make quick repairs on-site. However, now the head of the department has requested management to allow them to offer a price to produce the hardware internally. This request is approved. Explanation / Answer

1. It is wrong as a corporate member to ask or share information that is not included in the contract of two departments. There should be maintenance of confidentiality of any information with utmost sincerity unless expressly permitted to disclose such information may adversely affect the internal as well as external organizational environment.

I believe it is against business ethics and one should hold back from inducing someone to breach a contract entered into with another department. There is no such clause to share pricing information between two departments. The head of internal shop department can attain the pricing information from its own external sources if he or she wants to.

2. The purchasing should respond in a very decent manner refusing to disclose such confidential information. There should be maintenance of utmost honesty and fairness in making statements. One department must take care directly or indirectly to not injure the professional reputation of another department.
