Eugenics in its true sense denoted human selective reproduction with an intent of creating desirable traits through influencing differential birth rates. Positive eugenics refers to encouragement of reproduction of advantageous hereditary traits and negative eugenics refers to discouragement of reproduction of poor hereditary traits.

On 10 September, 1924, Dr. Albert Sidney Priddy, filed a petition to sterilize Carrie Buck as she was claimed to be genetic threat to society. Carrie , later was operated upon and received a compulsory salpingectomy and was further paroled from the institution as a domestic worker to a family.This was more of an endorsement to negative eugenics.
