Explanation / Answer

a.)

Eugenics in its true sense denoted human selective reproduction with an intent of creating desirable traits through influencing differential birth rates. Positive eugenics refers to encouragement of reproduction of advantageous hereditary traits and negative eugenics refers to discouragement of reproduction of poor hereditary traits.

Anti-Semitism became widespread after 1870s, when Darwin’s and Galton’s theory was gaining popularity. Though Galton never openly declared his inferiority views towards Jews, still Jews started experiencing a lot of discrimination at this point in Germany. Also, there was increasing in acceptance of state intervention in society. The positive eugenics was granted to white privileged males which was based on status of fitness and allegedly superior biological traits. ). From a political standpoint of positive eugenics, America was free to adopt such programs in the absence of centralized state approval. Also, in early 1990s, most of the colleges added eugenics into their cirriculum.

b.)To serve the purpose of eugenics, the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1924 authorized compulsory sterilization of intellectually disabled persons. On 10 September, 1924, Dr. Albert Sidney Priddy, filed a petition to sterilize Carrie Buck as she was claimed to be genetic threat to society. Carrie , later was operated upon and received a compulsory salpingectomy and was further paroled from the institution as a domestic worker to a family. This was more of an endorsement to negative eugenics.
