Question
The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a trade agreement currently being negotiated between several nations which border the Pacific Ocean.2 President Trump declared the US would withdraw from these negotiations early this year.3 The remaining eleven nations have proceeded with negotiations without the US and are likely to come to an agreement. Although we do not know what effect the TPP would have if the US had not withdrawn, we can still do some policy analysis. Use your knowledge of international agreements and regional trade agreements from class to briefly discuss the likely effects of US withdrawl from the TPP on global trade negotiations. Will it be easier or harder for the WTO to achieve its long-term goal of global free trade?Explanation / Answer
As we know that If US participates in the TPP agreement it would have boosted its trade relations with Asian countries.Due to protectionist policies it had withdrawn from the pact.
China was excluded from the pact.So withdrawn from the pact will make chinese influence over the region would expand dramatically. It is concentrating on RCEP(Regional comprehensive economic cooperation) which will boost its trade among asian countries.
2.There is a chance of worsening of US trade relations with of trade relations with pacific countries.
3.It will affect the TPP countries who are involved in the trade.
It is bit difficult for WTO to achieve the long term goal of global free trade.Due to exit of US,it will encourage more protectionist policies from other countries too, there by creating barriers for trade.
