Explanation / Answer
1.BACKGROUND TO OBESITY
Obesity is defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that presents a risk to health. Roughly 70 percent of adults in America are either overweight (defined as having a body mass index, or BMI, of 25 to 29.9) or obese (with a BMI of 30 or more). Obesity posses a major risk factor for various chronic diseases including cancer, heart related problems and diabetes. Today, obesity is rising rapidly and is not restricted to only high income countries but is also spreading to low income and middle income nations. First recognized as a disease by the American Medical Association in 2013, obesity is expected to soon overtake tobacco as the leading preventable cause of cancer, according to the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Countering obesity should be a national priority to help people know why their choices matter, and how they can make better choices for better health.

Some people, including Michelle Obama with her Let’s Move campaign against childhood obesity, are trying to draw attention to it.
