Answer:
In 1980, Congress and President Carter set aside the North slope of Arctic National Wildlife Refuge(ANWR) called the " Area 1002" for oil and natural development. This area was less than 3% of the entire ANWR. The U.S. Geological Survey estimated around 10.4 billion barrels of oil in the Area 1002.
Prohibiton of development in oil reserved in the ANWR would not provide the opportunity to supply America with its own enery as 10.4 billion barrels of oil is more than the oil that The U.S. imports from other countries.
Oil development in the ANWR would have helped to generate billions in new federal revenue, which could be used to pay the debts of the nation.
Many jobs would have been created if oil exploration was started, which would eventualy lead to economic growth and even decrease the import fo oil from other countries.

The current Trump Administration have taken steps towards oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
On April 19, 2018, the department of interior officials mapped out this project. The Drilling is limited to an area of 16 million acre of the ANWR as this area is believed to be holding large resouses of oil and gas, but it is also a home to many species.
The Department of Wildlife said that Trumps Administrations decisions to exploit and destroy the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) will lead to serious problems to the environment and the species that will never be able to recover. They also said that Trump Administration will have to get ready for a legal battle, as this drilling by private companies is on Americal Public Land.
