Question

Explain LIHEAP from your computer/literature research. Did you even know it existed? What are your views since all taxpayers are paying to support this program? . Since most electricity/utility companies are regulated monopolies that make profits for their stockholders, deo you think, from a social welfare perspective, that society maximizes benefits from utilities withholding more electricity production in order to maintain higher prices? Why or why not? Would it be better for utilities to manufacture more quantities of power, thereby lowering prices, so that more people could afford electricity? Why or why not? If lower electricity prices were possible, do you think the request for contibutions in your power ill would disappear? Why or why not? Would the LIHEAP program disappear? Why or why not? In your view, do you think local government regulators are getting all the information they need from companies in order to determine correct power rates? Why or why not? uoc from Princinles of Microeconomics.

Explanation / Answer

ANSWER:

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a United States federal social services program first established in 1981 and funded annually through Congressional appropriations. The mission of LIHEAP is to assist low income households, particularly those with the lowest incomes that pay a high proportion of household income for home energy, primarily in meeting their immediate home energy needs. The program, part of the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), is funded by grants appropriated from the federal government. It provide federally funded assistance in managing costs associated with (Home energy bills, Energy crises, Weatherization and energy-related minor home repairs)

LIHEAP can help you stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer through programs that reduce the risk of health and safety problems that arise from unsafe heating and cooling practices.

No, I don’t know it existed. But since all taxpayers are paying to support this program it will defiantly provide assistance to manage cost associated with energy and its crises.

Since most electricity/ utility companies are regulated monopolies that make profits for their stockholders, I think, from a social welfare perspective, that society maximizes benefits from utilities withholding more electricity production in order to maintain higher prices because, electricity is a form of energy and can be utilized in other forms. If the companies are charging slightly high price it will help to optimum utilization of

electricity and avoid miss use.

If lower electricity prices were possible, I don’t think the request for contributions in my power bill would disappear because; there will be no energy crisis.

LIHEAP program will not disappear because, there are issue related to electricity and energy crisis. It can only disappear when we may be able to overcome energy crisis.

I think with technological changes over time local government regulators are getting all the information they need from power companies in order to determine correct power rates because it is digitalized.
