Question

Hello, I am working on an economic assignment, but I an unsure of how to approach it. Here are the details below:

Eric Li, in his TedTalk below, citing the recent economic growth in China, claimed that "one-party state" functioned better than "democracy" in China, In addition, he argued against "democracy" as a universal system.

1. Has the "one party state" (as seen in China) functioned better than "two party state" (as seen in the US)?

2. Has the recent economic growth in China been the result of it's one-party state?

2. Is democracy a universal system or not?

Explanation / Answer

1)Actually One party system means dictatorship as is followed in China. Two party system as followed in US is a better choice. The government in a two party system works for the nation and for their welfare. But it is seen that political quarrels has made the concept of sovereignty less popular. This has effected the development of the American economy as well. But in China internal strifes are less due to one party system and this led to political, social and economic development .So seeing China,s development, in Global economy we can conclude that one party system has functioned better than two party system.

2)China's political and socio economic development is due to its one political party system and the country has become the second biggest economy in the globe.Even though there are eight opposition parties, no party dreams of taking over the power from ruling Communist party. The opposition gives good advice whenever necessary. There are no internal strifes between parties as is common in two party or multiparty system because the political parties squabbles ,trying to get power affects political ,social and economic development. However this one party system is unique to China and may not work for all countries.

3)Democracy is not yet universally practised and is not accepted by all countries, yet people are of the opinion that Democracy is the right type of government. However whether it is a Universal concept is a matter of conflict. In democracy Government has seldom been for the people, by the people and of the people ,as argued by those who opt for it.It has always been of,by and for the elite class which has lots of power ,and history past and present tells us so.The inherent freedom associated with democracy has been lately weakened in an atmosphere of fear and violence. So Democracy is not a universal system.
