Question
Attempts: 2 Keep the Highest: 2/3 4. A decision at the margin Megan is a hard-working college freshman. One Tuesday, she decides to work nonstop until she has answered 150 practice problems for her physics course. She starts work at 8:00 AM and uses a table to keep track of her progress throughout the day. She notices that as she gets tired, it takes her longer to solve each problem TimeTotal Problems Answered 8:00 AM 9:00 AM 10:00 AM 11:00 AM Noon 60 105 135 150 Use the table to answer the following questions. The marginal, or additional, gain from Megan's second hour of work, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, is problems The marginal gain from Megan's fourth hour of work, from 11:00 AM to noon, is problems.Explanation / Answer
Here marginal gain is additional amount of problem solved with additional unit of time
Marginal gain for second hour from 9 to 10 am is (105-60)problems=45problems
Marginal gain for fourth hour of work from 11 am to noon = (150-135)problems=15 problems
In 4 hour of study we should use 1 hour in solving problem and 3 hour in reading textbook
it is because in 1st hours student will solve 60 problem which is greater than 52.5 which means it gives more marks than 1 hour of reading textbook but in second hour student marginal gain is 45 problems which means it will solve only 45 problem which is less than 52.5 problem hence by reading a textbook in second hour student will gain more marks again in third and fourth hour marginal gain is 20 and 15 problem respectively and it is less than 52.3 problem which means by studying in third and fourth hour student will gain more marks .
