Question

What is the cost of water per thousand gallons of water (from local water board or a water bill)? Calculate the cost of the drip per year from the information you have (the number of gallons of water lost in one year from this drip is 68.4)

Note: The Sewer rate is set at 159% of the water charges. As of July 1, 2016, water costs $3.81 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons) and the combined cost of water and sewer is $9.87 per 100 cubic feet. The minimum water and sewer charge per metered household remains at $1.27 per day.

Explanation / Answer

Information given in the problem,
1 gallon = 0.133681 cubic feet
The Sewer rate is set at 159% of the water charges.
water costs $3.81 per 100 cubic feet (748 gallons)

As, cost of 100 cubic feet water= $3.81
So, cost of 100 cubic feet sewer water= 159% of $3.81
= $6.06
So, from above rate we can confirm that equal amount of sewer water and water are used as cost of combinjed rate is same.

So, cost of 200 galloons of combined water= $9.87
1000 gallon in cubic feet= 133.681
Cost of 1000 gallon water= 133.681*9.87
=$6.6 from water bill

water and sewer charge per metered household remains at $1.27 per day
which means per day 6.6*1000/1.27= 519.7 gallons of water is used each day.
